BELIEVE vs. WORK
“That the blessing
of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ; that we might
receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.”
GALATIANS
3:14 (KJV)
There
is a sharp contrast between the operations of the old covenant and the
operations of the new covenant; yet there are those who have a hard time
understanding this difference; while, there are some who do not believe that
there is a new way by which God relates with humanity. This is my opinion: if God could give a covenant when there was none
before it, then God can give another when he wants to accomplish something the
former couldn’t.
Man
found it difficult to experience rest under the old covenant as they had to
work for every experience of God they ever got, but there was little they could
do to earn the best of God as they frequently stumbled at the law; thereby,
incurring the wrath of God.
God
needed man to come into rest as he came into rest in the beginning: that
birthed the idea of the law, as there needed to be works – which will bring a
difference to the way man lived there lives – before rest could be experienced.
The work of distinction between the Jews and gentiles was completed when Jesus
came on the scene been preceded by the last prophet under the old covenant –
John the Baptist. Now we can to experience rest.
The experience of
rest is the experience of all that God has made available to us through his son
Jesus Christ: for we have been blessed with all spiritual blessings in heavenly
places in Christ Jesus. The way to experience this rest – blessings – is by believing
in Jesus and believing the words of God that talks about these provisions that
we have in Jesus.
