THORNY HEART
“And that which fell among thorns are
they, which, when they have heard, go forth, and are choked with cares and
riches and pleasures of this life, and bring no fruit to perfection.”
LUKE
8:14 (KJV)
It
is important for us to consider this category of people as they appear to make
progress with the word of God only for us to discover that they couldn’t bring
forth fruit to perfection.
People with hearts as this hear the
word of God, believe it, continue with the word, but do not persevere to see
the word produce what it talks about.
Their belief in the word appears to be for a while as the cares of this world
alongside its riches and pleasures choked the word.
It
is a reality of life that cares abound as man’s needs are insatiable, but we
are not to allow them stop us from holding on to our persuasion of the word of
God. When our desires for earthly
gratifications delay in manifestation, we are often tempted to give up on the
word of God but that is the time we can really proof our faith in God.
We
can infer from the response of this category of people to the word of God that
their motive for serving God is to satisfy their earthly desires. This shouldn’t
be the reason we serve God. We are to
seek first the pleasure of the father by living a life of unflinching trust in
him. Scripture says for us to seek first the Kingdom of God and assures us
that all that we seek will be added to us.
