ROCKY HEART contd.
“They on the rock are they, which,
when they hear, receive the word with joy; and these have no root, which for a
while believe, and in time of temptation fall away.”
LUKE 8:13 (KJV)
In
our recent articles we’ve been considering the power of believing, especially
as it concerns the rest that our Lord Jesus Christ has obtained for us through
his finished works on the cross of Calvary. All that is required of us in this life of rest – where we cease from
our struggles – is to believe in the written word of God which is a
documentation of the finished works of God concerning our lives.
The
parable of the soil presents a state of heart that is characterised by its
rocky nature. These are those that are persuaded about the experiences of the
world than they are of the experiences of the Kingdom of God. They believe strongly the power of human culture,
than they do the power of the gospel.
Scripture
accounts that they believed the word, but only for a while as when what came their
way wasn’t what they expected they left off believing the word. They only
believed at first because the word sounded good to them, but they kept on
focusing on the obvious realities of the world and eventually they left believing
because the realities of the world were more obvious to them than the realities
of the word.
The solution to this state of heart
would be for them to communion with the Holy Spirit. This is because as they commune with the Holy Spirit,
their heart of stone will be replaced with the heart of flesh as scripture
promised. Their heart will experience the moisture that comes from studying God’s
word and praying to the Father.
