ROCKY HEART
“And some fell on a rock; and as soon
as it was sprung up, it withered away, because it lacked moisture.”
LUKE 8:6 (KJV)
Through
the parable of the soil we seek to understand how the state of the heart can
influence the power of believing. The second state of heart described by our
Lord Jesus Christ is referred to as rocky heart. It is important for us to understand that these states of heart are
states of life.
One
might want to infer that those with the rocky heart belong to the Rock of Ages.
But that is not true of these people as the state of their heart is a function
of their persuasion of worldly things more than their persuasion of godly
things. They are bent on their ways they are more persuaded about the things of
this word than the things of the Kingdom.
We
can find this category of people in the church of God. They uphold strongly the tradition of men than they do of the
principles of the Kingdom of God. Jesus said that men make the word of God
of none effect through the tradition of men. Despite how powerful the word of
God is, those with this state of heart will not experience the salvation that
is in the word of God.
Those
with a rocky heart receive the word of God with joy – a proof that they are Christians
– but they fall away from the truth during the time temptation comes their way.
The time of temptation is the time when
what comes to you is not what you expected.
It
is important for us to further note that these people compare God’s word with
the realities of the word; they judge the potency of the word of God by the obvious
realities of the word. These people can go a long way in proving that the word
of God has no solution to some situations of life. It is sad to know that many
Christians fall into this category.
