BE ENCOURAGED
“Be you strong therefore, and let not your hands be
weak: for your work shall be rewarded.”
2
Chronicles 15:7 (KJV)
This
is a message of encouragement from the Spirit of God to those who are on the
verge of yielding to discouragement with respect to the work of God; and this
is also a message of encouragement to those who are indecisive about embracing
the work of God for their lives. The
Spirit of God says that your work shall be rewarded.
For
the first category of people, I understand how it feels like when we expect
rewards for our committed labour to the Kingdom of God in giving and service,
and thus far we haven’t seen so much as to encourage us to continue in diligent
service. We often wonder if God really rewards his people. The truth here is
God does. If God is a recorder of our
works, then he is a rewarder of our works.
Scripture
says, “do not be weary in well doing, for in due season you shall reap if you
faint not.” God is sure to reward you for your labour in his kingdom. Scripture
further says, “In all labour there is profit.” The problem sometimes is that we do not understand the pattern of God’s
reward.
God,
in rewarding his serving children, rewards them first with spiritual things
before rewarding them with physical things. We desire the latter, and so fail
to recognise the rich deposit of spiritual rewards our lives custodies. God said
to Abraham, “I am your exceeding great reward.” And God is a Spirit, so his
rewards are spiritual rewards. His
spiritual rewards are what produce the physical rewards.
Have
you considered the consistent revelation of God’s word you have – that’s a
reward; have you considered the honour you have – that’s a reward; have you
considered the mercy you experience – that’s a reward; have you considered the
wisdom you have – that’s a reward; have you considered the protection you enjoy
– that’s a reward; have you considered the spiritual gifts you have – that’s a
reward; have you considered the presence of the Holy Spirit you have – that’s a
reward. Scripture says that God was with Joseph – even when he was in the pit, in
Potiphar’s house, and in the prison; yet, we didn’t see a physical reward until
he got to the palace. The spiritual
rewards in his life produced the physical rewards he desired. God’s
physical rewards are on the way; first recognise the spiritual rewards and
thank him for it.
For
the category of those who are indecisive about working for God. The truth is:
the honour and beauty that will be identified with your life is a function of
who you serve. Consider serving God and you will experience the beauty and
honour that the King of Kings confers on his servants.
EXERCISE
Identify the
spiritual blessings in your life and give God thanks for them.
