THE LOVE OF GOD

“Hereby perceive we the love of God, because he laid down his life for us: and we ought to lay down our lives for the brothers.”
                                                                                                1 John 3:16 (KJV)

The love of God is the second communication of the God-head, and its comprehension is important in establishing us in the reality of the kingdom. The love of God is God’s expression of love to humanity and God’s requirement of love from humanity.

Our opening scripture lets us in on the definition of the love of God. The love of God was demonstrated to us in the laying down of his life through his son Jesus Christ. We wouldn’t have known God’s love if it wasn’t displayed in Jesus’ death – this he did for humanity. In clear terms, the love of God is the love for humanity.

Scripture says, “In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him.” God’s love – as a requirement of humanity – demands we lay down our lives for others, if not in its literal expression, in our good deeds towards humanity. How can we say we have the love of God in us when we do not love humanity? The expression of the love of God is not to believers only but to those who do not believe the faith in Jesus Christ.

The parable of the Samaritan puts forth this truth in its simplest expression: those who believed in God passed by the beaten man, but one who was not a believer offered help. He was commended by Jesus to have done what was right.

The love of God is the love that God expresses to humanity, and he requires us to express same to each other. No time have we seen God, so he judges our love for him by our expression of love for humanity.

Scripture says, “But whoever has this world's good, and sees his brother have need, and shuts up his bowels of compassion from him, how dwells the love of God in him?” Do not overlook the needs of others when you have the means to supply that need.

I need point out that it is the Holy Spirit who imparts to us the ability to love. You can judge your communion with the spirit by your expression of love to those that are within and without.

CONFESSION
Father I thank you for expressing your love to me in your son Jesus, I receive grace to express same love to humanity.
