THE COMMUNION OF THE SPIRIT

“. . . and the communion of the Holy Ghost, be with you all. Amen.”
                                                                                      2 Corinthians 13:14 (KJV)

Having considered the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ and the love of God, it becomes necessary for us to examine the meaning and implication of the communion of the Spirit. Paul prays for the church that the communion of the Spirit be with us; thus, signifying that this communion is expected to be a part of our human existence.

It is not a difficult thing for us to understand who the Holy Ghost is, but we would need to refer to the dictionary to get a rich definition of communion. Communion is defined as sharing thoughts and feelings. This lets us in on the definition and implication of the communion of the Spirit.

Notice that scripture didn’t say that “the communion with the Holy Ghost,” – that does not mean we can’t have communion with him, but the communion of the Holy Ghost holds a revelation for us – it says “the communion of the Holy Ghost.” The communion of the Spirit is the Holy Ghost’s act of sharing his thoughts and feelings with us. Hallelujah!

This implies that as we live our lives on earth, the thoughts and feelings of the Spirit will be a reality in our hearts as much as our thoughts and feelings are to us. The communication of the thoughts and feelings of the Spirit are intended for several reasons: to let us know his person, to guide our actions, to minister to the world, and to build a relationship with us.

I will like to write further on the aspect of building a relationship with us. Thoughts and feelings are a major part of relationship-building. Certain times, God gives us his thoughts to think upon and his feelings to dwell upon. We are not to neglect them, but rather exchange thoughts and feelings with him through talking.

God is desirous to know what your thoughts and feelings are about the issues of your life. He said in his word for us to come and reason with him; he further asked us to produce our strong reasons. What more can we desire from a relationship with God? What an atmosphere of respect and concern that God, through his Spirit, has made available to us.

EXERCISE
Take out time to share your thoughts and feelings with the Holy Ghost talking about them and listen for his thoughts and feelings.
