GETTING THE DESIRES OF YOUR HEART

“Delight yourself also in the LORD: and he shall give you the desires of your heart.”
                                                                                                            Psalms 37:4 (KJV)

Over the ages, the achievements of mankind have been birthed through the womb of desires. Desires are an intrinsic part of our humanity, and it is literally defined as an inclination to want things – good or bad. While it is okay for us to nurse good desires, the attainment of these desires sometimes poses a challenge. This is what the above scripture seeks to address.

The above scriptural text encourages us to delight ourselves in the Lord and promises, as a consequence, the granting of the desires of our heart. As plain as this scripture reads, we will need to understand the details of this scripture for us to experience what it talks about. The question here is, “How do I delight myself in the Lord?” To understand “how to delight,” we need to first understand “what it is to delight.”

The word delight means: “Take great pleasure in,” and the word pleasure means, “feeling of happy satisfaction and enjoyment.” These two definitions give us a wholesome idea of what it is to delight. Delight which is a decisive act leaves us with a feeling of happy satisfaction and enjoyment. When brought in context with our main text, it suggests to us to derive a feeling of satisfaction and enjoyment in the Lord: and he shall grant you the desires of our heart. Let’s now consider the question of how we can delight ourselves in the Lord.

Communion with Holy Spirit – who is God himself, and is indwelling in us – is the atmosphere of delight in the Kingdom of God. It is in our fellowship with him that we can delight in the Lord.

There are various forms of communion with Holy Spirit: prayer to God, study of the Word of God, meditation on the Word of God, and yielding to Holy Spirit’s leading, nature and gifts. When we fulfill our part of delighting in him, he will fulfill his part of granting us our desires. But how does this happen?

Bear in mind that everything that man needs has been put in his spirit by God. When we commune with Holy Spirit, we experience a feeling of pleasure, and it causes our spirit to open up and causes a release of the substance of our desires into our soul which is a type of a womb, and in no time causes our desires to materialise in the physical realm.

Make a practice of heart-felt communion unto the Lord: thanking him for all he has done for you, reading portions of psalms to him, telling him that you’ve not come to ask a thing from him but you have come to give to him. Hallelujah! Take notice of the delight you feel from doing any of the above-mentioned and expect a manifestation of your desires.

CONFESSION
Father, I thank you for giving me all that I need for life and godliness, despite the many desires of my heart I have decided to take my eyes off them and set my eyes on you in worship of your majesty and love for me.
