MORE THAN A GIVER: HE IS A LOVER

“I love them that love me; and those that seek me early shall find me.”
                                                                                      Proverbs 8:17 (NKJ)

Scarcely do we know that God is more than a giver, that in a deep sense he is a lover. We often approach God seeking what his hands have to offer, but we seldom seek what his heart has to offer us.

The heart of God will offer to us what his hands will never offer to us. God’s hands will offer us gifts, but his heart will offer us his person. Our love for God is demonstrated when we seek his heart and not his hands.

God is love and he dearly wants to be loved by mankind: this is reason he made man with a will; thus, affording man the ability to choose actions that will touch his heart.

Scripture accounts of Moses that he knew the ways of God, but the Children of Israel knew only the acts of God. We notice from scripture that the children of Israel did experience a lot of calamities from the Lord because they didn’t know how to please him. Moses’ case was different as he had, through seeking God’s heart, understood the person of God – his preferences, pleasures, and patterns.

To the man that focuses on touching the heart of God, he will surely secure the hands of God as an atmosphere of love will always birth an atmosphere of giving. The question here is, “how do I touch the heart of God?”

This is simple! A lifestyle of worship will demonstrate intense love for God. Worshippers are closer to God than any other category of people. Scripture says that God seeks this category of people. What a blessing it is for God to seek you. If he seeks you, he will not hesitate to bless you.

The next time you get into God’s presence through a decision to fellowship with him, take your heart away from your many needs – for he knows about them even before you became aware of them – give him pleasure by singing songs to him, reading psalms to him, and declaring his goodness towards you and humanity. Make this a consistent practice and you will come to see how God will seek to please you too by giving you your heart desires.

EXERCISE
Get into an atmosphere of heartfelt worship; tell God that you are leaving aside your needs to seek his face.
